چکیده

An Erbium doped fiber laser oscillator emitting at 1560nm is developed. The laser is mode-locked with saturable absorber based on nonlinear polarization rotation. The measured cw threshold power is about 70mW and the power scaling efficiency is 13%. The maximum output power obtained is 40mW. The mode-locking is self starting and the stability is verified in millisecond, microsecond and nanosecond time scale of an analogue oscilloscope. The repetition rate is measured to be 80MHz. The pulse spectra have the characteristic side lobes of soliton mode-locking with a central lobe of width19nm. The temporal width of the pulse is measured by SHG intensity autocorrelation. The pulse width depends on the pump power. The width is about 130fs for the pump current of 800mA. The mode-locked pulse is not bandwidth limited, as is evident from the time bandwidth product. Extra-cavity second harmonic is generated in a BIBO crystal with efficiency of 1%. The intra-cavity second harmonic could not be generated as the SHG crystal disturbs mode-locking because of its birefringence properly. MIRAMARE – TRIESTE August 2009 Regular Associate of ICTP. Tools for quantum optics : Pulsed polarization - maintaining Er - doped fiber laser and spatial mode manipulation in spontaneous parametric downconversion

Two separate projects were undertaken to improve technology for entangled photon sources, useful for quantum optics. In one project, a pulsed, mode-locked erbium-doped fiber laser, designed to be used as a seed laser for a 390 nm source, was built using polarization-maintaining components to address polarization drift. The fiber laser operated at a center wavelength of 1560.0 nm with an output ...

All-fiber passively mode-locked femtosecond laser using a 45º-tilted fiber grating polarization element.

We report on the demonstration of an all-fiber femtosecond erbium doped fiber laser passively mode-locked using a 45º tilted fiber grating as an in-fiber polarizer in the laser cavity. The laser generates 600 fs pulses with output pulse energies ~1 nJ. Since the 45° tilted grating has a broad polarization response, the laser output has shown a tunabilty in wavelength from 1548 nm to 1562 nm by ...

Sub-100 fs mode-locked erbium-doped fiber laser using a 45°-tilted fiber grating.

We demonstrate generation of sub-100 fs pulses at 1.5 µm in a mode-locked erbium-doped fiber laser using a 45°-tilted fiber grating element. The laser features a genuine all-fiber configuration. Based on the unique polarization properties of the 45°-tilted fiber grating, we managed to produce sub-100 fs laser pulses through proper dispersion management. To the best of our knowledge, this is the...

Passive Mode Lockmg of a Neodymium-Doped Fiber Laser with a Nonlinear Optical Loop Mirror

ONLINEAR fiber loop mirrors such as nonlinear optical N loop mirrors (NOLM) [1]-[3] and nonlinear amplifying loop mirrors (NALM) [3], [4] have been shown to have a great potential for fast optical switching for signal processing and all-optical communications [5], [6]. Recently, they have been used as a fast saturable absorber to passively mode lock fiber lasers. Generation and reshaping of pic...

Frequency detuning properties of EDFL pulses generated by harmonic mode-locking and regenerative amplification: a comparison

We compare the frequency detuning properties of optical pulses generated from erbium-doped fiber lasers (EDFL's) by using harmonic mode-locking and regenerative amplification techniques. The frequency detuning range of regeneratively amplified pulse (17.78 kHz) is wider than that of harmonic mode-locked pulses (7 kHz). The regeneratively amplidied EDFL pulse has a smaller pulsewidth (22ps), a h...
